Complicaci\u00f3n del MARPE: \u00bfQu\u00e9 hacer vs. Qu\u00e9 no hacer?<\/h3>\n

Muchos “innovadores” crean dise\u00f1os espec\u00edficos de MARPE y afirman que son superiores a los productos actualmente disponibles en el mercado. Se presentan muchos resultados afirmando que la expansi\u00f3n cura la Apnea Obstructiva del Sue\u00f1o; sin embargo, existen numerosos efectos secundarios de la expansi\u00f3n palatina r\u00e1pida asistida por mini-tornillos (MARPE), y muchos de los casos que fracasan, se ignoran y descartados.<\/p>\n

Es de gran importancia conocer el MARPE y las indicaciones de su uso, para predecir y evitar los posibles efectos secundarios, al igual que hacemos en la biomec\u00e1nica para la ortodoncia.<\/p>\n

Una vez que se producen complicaciones, es importante comprender la mejor manera de tratar el caso para evitar m\u00e1s da\u00f1os iatrog\u00e9nicos.<\/p>\n

En esta conferencia, estar\u00e9 presentando casos que muestran las complicaciones del MARPE y c\u00f3mo solucionar cada uno de estos.<\/p>\n

Hablar\u00e9 de mis datos cl\u00ednicos sobre las complicaciones del MARPE, incluyendo una revisi\u00f3n de m\u00e1s de 300 casos de MARPE, mediciones objetivas de radiograf\u00edas CBCT para determinar qu\u00e9 factores conducen a mejoras cl\u00ednicas exitosas y qu\u00e9 factores pueden crear consecuencias iatrog\u00e9nicas adversas del MARPE.<\/p>\n

Los objetivos de esta presentaci\u00f3n son guiar al ortodoncista en seleccionar la mejor opci\u00f3n de MARPE para casos individuales y planificar adecuadamente el tratamiento de la biomec\u00e1nica para evitar complicaciones cl\u00ednicas.<\/p>\n

MARPE complication : What to do vs What not to do<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Many \u201cinnovators” create specific MARPE designs and claim superiority over current products currently available on the market. They present a lot of positive results claiming expansion cures all sleep apnea\/OSA; however, there are numerous side effects of mini-screw-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) and many of the failure cases are ignored and discarded. There is of great importance to fully understand MARPE and indications of use in order to predict and avoid potential side effects, just as we do in biomechanics for orthodontics. Once complications do occur, it is just as important to understand how to best manage the case to prevent further iatrogenic damage.<\/span><\/p>\n


\nIn this lecture, I will present cases that demonstrate the complications of MARPE and how to troubleshoot and manage each complication. I will discuss my clinical data ( in press ) of MARPE complications including a review of over 300+ MARPE cases, CBCT x-ray objective measurements to determine what factors lead to successful clinical improvements, and what factors may create adverse iatrogenic consequences of MARPE. The goals of this presentation are to guide the orthodontist in selecting the best MARPE option for individual cases and proper treatment plan the biomechanics to avoid clinical complications.
